Beijing International Relay Race set for April ( 2004-01-14 16:43) (chinadaily.com.cn by Echo)
The 18th Beijing International Relay Marathon is to be held on April 11, announced the Chinese Athletic Association Tuesday. The event is co-sponsored by the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Individuals and organizations at home and abroad are invited to participate. Applications must be made before February 29th. The race begins and ends at Tian'anmen Square. It covers Beijing's city proper circling along the Second Ring Road. The total route is 42.195 kilometers long, which is to be divided into six sections. Their respective distances are 10, 5, 10, 5, 5 and 7.195km, and will be run by six runners in relay order. A 10-km race for both men and women will be going on at the same time. Initiated in 1986, the Beijing International Relay Race was first held at the foot of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall outside Beijing. Since 1990 the event was moved to Beijing.
