A young man in Jiangsu Province scripted a fake kidnap drama involving himself and demanded 3,500 yuan (US$423) from his parents for his release, reports Zhejiang Today Post.

The 20-year-old jobless man left home many days earlier; and nothing was heard of him till the parents received a call from him saying he was kidnapped and wanted his parents to deposit money in a bank account ?which he had expressly opened for the purpose.

After being caught, the young man said he was inspired by the similar TV plots; and said he wanted to use the money to train as a chef.
