A sudden fire enveloped a 1,000-square-metre duck farm in suburban Songjiang District over the weekend, killing more than 20,000 birds, Youth Daily reports.

The fire lasted nearly an hour in the morning and neighbours later picked up thousands of "roasted ducks" from the burnt shed, which was made of wood and straw.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
