Love triangle goes wrong ( 2003-12-24 10:13) (21 Century) New Year movie (Hesuipian) "Cell Phone" opened on December 10 in Beijing, and will hit cinemas across the country this Thursday.
It tells of a love triangle between Yan Shouyi (Ge You), a successful middle-aged TV talk show host, his girl friend (Xu Fan) and his lover (Fan Bingbing). One day, Yan accidentally leaves his mobile behind at home; a strange woman calls; the wife picks up the phone, and a family crisis follows. Funny, witty and spiced up with some black humour, "Cell Phone" is the latest film from director Feng Xiaogang. His former works includes "Big Shot's Funeral" (Dawan), and "A Sigh" (Yisheng Tanxi). "What really makes a movie work is that it should care about life," Feng said at the premiere. "The cell phone has changed the way of life for Chinese, I noticed this change and so here comes the movie." The actor Ge You, a constant presence in Feng's most successful movies, appears with a shiny black wig this time instead of his famous bare scalp. "That's just what the movie requires," Feng says, "We don't count on that to attract the audience. If we only focus on how many hairs Ge You has grown, then the movie will surely be a failure."
