Gold mine uncovered in NE China ( 2003-12-18 22:39) (Xinhua)
Chinese geologists have found a gold mine with an estimated deposit of 16
tons in northeast China' s Jilin Province.
Located in Liuhe District of Huadian City, the gold mine covers about 100
square kilometers. Scientists are carrying out further surveys in the area, as
they are convinced its total gold deposit should top 100 tons.
"Discovery of the gold mine will relieve the shortage of resources in Huadian
city, a traditional gold production base," said Sun Baotian, chief engineer with
the provincial geological survey bureau for non-ferrous metals.
The gold rush in Huadian city started over 180 years ago.
