NE China province fosters professionals for rural areas ( 2003-12-18 22:39) (Xinhua)
Heilongjiang province, northeast China, plans to foster about 10,000 professionals of modern agricultural technologies and management for its 9,500 villages in the next five years. A dozen local colleges and universities including the Dongbei ( Northeast China) Agricultural University have worked out training programs which highlight practical technologies in agricultural operations, such as breeding new crop species, experimental new technologies and crop growing technologies. The length of training will be two years. The purpose of the training program is to foster more agricultural professionals who are expected to play a key role in boosting the rural economy. The training courses will be open to all graduates of secondary schools and vocational schools, who are below the age of 35, and live and work in rural areas. The provincial government and relevant colleges and universities will provide each trainee with annual tuition fees totaling 6,000 yuan (725.5 US dollars). All the trainees will return to their home villages upon graduation and they are required to work there for at least five years. After the five-year service term, they are free to choose where to go. The trainees will enjoy preferential policies and financial support given by the local government.
