HK films dominate Golden Horse Awards ( 2003-12-15 11:38) (Shenzhen Daily) This year's Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan could have been called the "Golden Hong Kong Awards." Films, actors and actresses from Hong Kong dominated Saturday's competition ¡ª an important event for the Chinese-language movie industry. The police thriller, Infernal Affairs, walked away with the most awards, winning best film, best actor, best director, best supporting actor and best sound effects. The film seemed almost guaranteed to win the best actor award because two of its lead characters were nominated: mega stars Tony Leung and Andy Lau. The honor went to Leung, who plays the policeman. Anthony Wong, who stars as a police superintendent, was named best supporting actor, while directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak got their own Golden Horses. The film's final award went to Kinson Tsang for his sound effects. But Infernal Affairs was not the only film winning the big honors for Hong Kong. Sandra Ng was named best actress for her performance in Golden Chicken. Ng plays a spunky prostitute ¡ª or "chicken" in Hong Kong slang ¡ª whose career spans 30 years. Best original film score went to Hong Kong's Marco Wan for Color of the Truth, a police story about friendship and corruption. Taiwan has hosted the Golden Horse ceremony for 40 years, but its
once-thriving movie industry has shown no signs of a
revival.
