Cops earn money for clean records
( 2003-12-12 17:19) (China Daily)

Officers with the Qinhuai Police Station in Nanjing who maintain corruption-free careers will be awarded with up to 200,000 yuan (US$24,000) upon retirement, reports Beijing Daily.

On Wednesday, each of the 510 officers at the Qinhuai station was given a bank account containing a 3,000-4,500 yuan (US$360-540) deposit.

A certain amount of money will be put into the account every year as a reward for officials deemed honest and upright in their work.

If they violate any rules, money will be deducted from their account in accordance with the severity of the offence.

The officers will only be allowed to withdraw the money when they retire.

The incentive is meant to help bring an end to corruption in the police force, the report says.
