Trees serve as weather forecasters ( 2003-12-12 17:19) (China Daily)
Two ancient trees in the Wanshante District of Southwest China's Guizhou
Province foretell when snow will fall and when it will stop each winter, reports
Guizhou Metropolis News.
Year after year, buds appear on the two trees at the beginning of winter. If
they flower, snow is sure to follow, but after the blooms wither, there is no
more snow.
If the flowers fail to blossom throughout the entire winter, there won't be
any snow at all.
Not surprisingly, the 20 metre-tall trees, some 150 and 350 years old,
respectively, are called Snow Trees by local residents, who hope that experts
can explain the trees' "magical" powers.
