Sob story fools police only once ( 2003-12-12 17:19) (China Daily)
A man who cheated police out of 900 yuan (US$110) by playing on officers' sympathy was caught when he tried to play the same trick again half a year later, reports Chengdu Business News. On June 18, a 20-something Cantonese-speaking man went to the Shuanggui Police Station and said his mobile phone, about 2,500 yuan (US$300) and ID card had been stolen by three men. He told police he was He Xiaojiang, from a remote village in Guangdong Province, and was now eager to go home. The police, after failing to contact He's family, gave him some money to go back to his home town. But on Wednesday, officers at the same station were approached by a man, claiming he'd been robbed and asking for help, who looked exactly like He. Under questioning, the man confessed his cheating behaviour and is now in police custody.
