The Shanghai Civilization Office and the bureau co-ordinating the Shanghai World Expo have jointly launched a series of foreign-language learning activities to welcome visitors to the grand event in 2010, Xinmin Evening News reports.

The activities will last until 2010 when all service sector employees and at least half of all local citizens are expected to be able to communicate with Chinese and foreigners in both Putonghua and English.
