Hairy-crab raising area expands

The area for cultivating hairy crab on Chongming Island has been expanded to
Xinjiang as the two-year experiment in raising them at a lake there has proved
successful, Xinmin Evening News reports.
More than 1,330 hectares of land will be dedicated to raising Chongming hairy
crabs in Xinjiang next year.
By the end of 2003, Chongming will have expanded the area for raising the
crabs to 10,000 hectares in 28 counties in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi and
even Qinghai provinces.
