A woman spent more than 10,000 yuan (US$1,200) unwittingly decorating a stranger's house, reports Beijing Star Daily.

After Sun bought a two-storey house in a Beijing suburb, she began fixing it up and planned to move into her new residence before the New Year.

Before she started decorating, Sun asked the builder to point out the house to her, as there were no numbers on any of the houses to distinguish them from one another.

But several days later, a man turned up saying he owned the house.

The builder later realized he had made a mistake but did not know how to rectify the situation.
