Taoist priest protests photo use ( 2003-12-11 17:02) (China Daily)
A jewellery firm that used a Taoist priest's photo and name in a sales
promotion without permission has been ordered to pay the holy man 30,000 yuan
(US$3,600), reports Beijing Star Daily.
On December 19, 2001, Ma, a Taoist priest at Beijing's Baiyun Temple, saw
that the Beijing Heguang International Jewellery Co was using his photo without
his consent, as well as claiming that of its all 180 Mammon statues had been
consecrated by him.
Ma said that the jewellery company had infringed on his portraiture rights
and usurped his name, causing him great distress.
