Rockhound's find is valuable stone tool ( 2003-12-09 17:16) (China Daily)
A Beijing resident unwittingly picked up a 4,000-year-old zax - a small,
primitive axe - while he was travelling in Inner Mongolia three years ago,
reports Beijing Star Daily.
Wu, who collects rocks, noticed the unusual stone while hiking on a mountain
in North China's Inner Mongolian Region and pocketed it.
Archaeologist Han Jianye recently identified the stone as a zax fashioned in
the Neolithic Age.
Han suggested that Wu contribute the rare stone implement to the national
museum.
