NBA: Duncan helps Spurs pile on misery for Magic

Tim Duncan accumulated a season-high 47 points to inspire the defending champion San Antonio Spurs to a 105-94 victory over the Orlando Magic Friday.

It was a club record 18th straight loss for the Magic (1-18), who won their season opener in overtime but have dropped every game since. Orlando is five away from matching the NBA record of 23 consecutive defeats in a single season.

Duncan fell six points shy of his career high as he made 19-of-34 shots and 9-of-13 free throws, missing a three-pointer in the closing seconds.

Tracy McGrady had 28 points to pace Orlando, with Drew Gooden adding 23.

Nets 93 Bucks 86

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Jason Kidd notched a triple-double on the same day he was handed a $10,000 NBA fine for criticizing game officials as the Nets defeated the Milwaukee Bucks (news) 93-86.

Kidd claimed 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Kerry Kittles topped New Jersey with 22 points while Kenyon Martin added 20 points and a career-high 21 rebounds.

Michael Redd had 24 points for the Bucks.

Raptors 92 Hawks 87

In Toronto, newcomers Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall poured in 22 and 21 points respectively as the Raptors rallied to down the Atlanta Hawks 92-87.

Vince Carter also recorded 22 points for Toronto. Jason Terry led Atlanta with 19.

Suns 110 Celtics 106

In Boston, Stephon Marbury amassed a game-high 34 points as the Phoenix Suns came from 29 points down to defeat the Celtics 110-106.

It was a record comeback for Phoenix.

Paul Pierce had 24 points to pace Boston while Vin Baker added 22 while grabbing nine rebounds.

76ers 93 Heat 90

In Miami, NBA scoring leader Allen Iverson piled up another 35 points as the Philadelphia 76ers held on to beat the Heat 93-90.

Miami surged late, taking the final quarter 24-16. Dwyane Wade and Eddie Jones led the Heat with 21 and 20 points respectively.

Earlier, 76ers rookie guard Willie Green underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. He is expected to be sidelined at least two months.

Rockets 83 Hornets 74

In New Orleans, Yao Ming had 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Houston Rockets rallied to overcome the Hornets 83-74.

Houston used a 26-12 third quarter to take command.

Darrell Armstrong picked up 17 points for New Orleans while Jamaal Magloire added 14 points and a game-high 12 boards.

Grizzlies 92 Wizards 77

In Memphis, Pau Gasol's 17 points and 12 rebounds guided the Grizzlies past the Washington Wizards 92-77.

Christian Laettner had 17 points for Washington.

Jazz 86 Clippers 67

In Salt Lake City, Matt Harpring scored 20 points as the Utah Jazz won all four quarters to thump the Los Angeles Clippers 86-67.

Corey Maggette paced the Clippers with 15 points while Elton Brand added 13.

Nuggets 98 Warriors 91

In Denver, the Nuggets reeled off their sixth straight win with a 98-91 triumph over the Golden State Warriors.

Rookie Carmelo Anthony seized 28 points for the Nuggets, who are 9-1 at home.

Mike Dunleavy had 19 points for Golden State.
