Beijing selected host of 2005 world boxing championship
( 2003-12-06 11:24) (Xinhua)

Beijing will be the venue of the  World Boxing Championship for year 2005, as revealed by the  Secretary General of the International Boxing Association (AIBA),  Turkey's Cane Doganeli, in a statement released on Friday by local press.

The State-run daily Granma indicated the selection of Beijing is justified as it will be the host of the 2008 Olympic Games. In Istanbul, Doganeli also informed that the youth tournament ( under-19) will be held in South Korea in June, 2004.

Doganeli confirmed AIBA's intentions to include boxing as a demonstration sport in the World University Games of 2005 at the  Turkish city of Izmir. Next March the Mexican city of Tijuana will hold the first of  two Olympic qualifying tournaments for the continent, which counts with 64 places for the Athens 2004 Olympics.
