Acid in water stalls hydropower station ( 2003-12-04 17:06) (China Daily)
China's first hydropower station, which is located in Kunming in Southwest
China's Yunnan Province and has been operating for more than 90 years, was
forced to stop production recently, reports People's Daily.
Pollution brought service to a halt, said the operator.
Because there is lot of acid in the river where the station is located,
equipment at the plant and the dam had become seriously corroded.
As the costs for repairs and renovations is quite high, the operator chose to
close the plant permanently.
