Govt bars firm that broke rules ( 2003-12-04 16:58) (China Daily)
A Hubei-based construction company has been permanently barred from doing
business in the Beijing market due to failure to pay the migrant workers it
hired and beatings inflicted on some of them, reports Beijing Times.
The company is the first to be reprimanded following a series of regulations
issued by the municipal government last month to crack down on some construction
companies holding back employees' wages.
The Hubei Xiaochang Building Company is barred from Beijing's building market
forever and has been ordered to pay 150,000 yuan (US$18,120) to more than 30
workers.
To date, the municipal government has opened a complaint hotline, organized
an investigative team and set up an office to specifically deal with cases of
unpaid wages.
