Direct delivery scheme to improve meals ( 2003-12-03 17:17) (China Daily)
Shanghai's 25 colleges and universities jointly signed an agreement on Monday
with the city's logistics management centre to provide low-cost, high-quality
food to area students, Shanghai Evening Post reports.
In a survey conducted among college students here, each said they spent 8 to
9 yuan (about US$1) on food every day.
But if there are loopholes in the logistics management at these schools, the
price and quality of students' meals is easily affected, said the newspaper.
The fact is the most students surveyed have complained about the low food
quality.
Stock obtained directly from suppliers would cut out the 10 per cent gross
profit added on by meat or vegetable wholesalers and thereby make meals cheaper
for students, said the newpaper, thus making students be the
beneficiaries.
