The investment plan, which begins inthe next fiscal year starting in April 2004, reflects strong global demand for LCD panels used for televisions, lap-top computers and other electronic devices, said Fuji Photo spokesman Ken Sugiyama.
"Demand for LCD products is rising at home and abroad. With the fresh investment, we aim to boost our production and sales," he said.
Fuji Photo estimates sales from the LCD film division will reach 67 billion yen in the current financial year to March 2004 and the firm aims to triple that to around 200 billion yen by the end of the four-year investment plan.
The business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun said Tuesday Fuji Photo might build new production facilities in South Korea and Taiwan, the world's key LCD producers, as part of the investment, but the the company spokesman denied the report.
