Blast at a Liaoning bank kills two ( 2003-12-02 00:59) (Xinhua) An explosion in front of bank
in Haiicheng city of Northeast China's Liaoning province killed two people and
injured 17 others Monday morning.
The explosion happened at 8:05 a.m. Monday in front of a branch of the
Haicheng Rural Credit Cooperative in Xiliu town, Haicheng city.
Local police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing the
explosion.
The man was spotted acting suspiciously. He was arrested when he tried to
escape questioning, said police.
Police claimed to have seized a remote controller and detonators from the
man.
According to Luo Rongguang, head of the public security bureau of Haicheng,
the suspect, identified as Yang Changguo, 39, was a farmer from Maoqi town of
Haicheng. He allegedly planned to detonate a bomb to steal 220,000 yuan
(US%26,500) from the premises.
The two dead have not been identified, and two of the injured were still in
serious condition.
