A woman has received the death penalty with reprieve for killing her partner who wanted to break up with her, reports Information Times.

Zhang Qiaolan, a 26-year-old from Henan Province, said she realized she was gay after two failed relationships with men.

She fell in love with 18-year-old Cheng while working at a Dongguan factory with her.

They made a pact to maintain the relationship for three years, but Zhang was often jealous because she suspected Cheng was still interested in men.

She hit Cheng on April 6 after seeing her talking with a male co-worker.

In an attempt to make up two days later, Zhang slit one of her wrists in front of Cheng, but Cheng treated the suicide bid with indifference and sarcasm.

An agitated Zhang then strangled her.

The death with reprieve sentence is commuted to life imprisonment in most cases.
