Wang and He, a married couple from Jiangsu Province, have been both sentenced to three years in prison each for running a small-scale prostitution scheme, Shanghai Morning Post reports.

The pair were unhappy with their paltry earnings. After learning that another woman from their village paid for an addition to her home with money she made working as a prostitute in Shanghai, the two decided to follow suit.

They went to Guangdong Province in April where they recruited two 20-year-old women they presented to customers as virgins.

He would then set them up with clients, charging high prices for their services. They made 10,000 yuan (US$1,200) in just two months.

But when one of the prostitutes was arrested in July, the couple were also taken into custody.
