A man who killed his former girlfriend turned himself in to police after failing in his subsequent suicide attempt, reports Beijing Morning Post.

Peng's girlfriend Xiang moved to Beijing in July and broke up with him three months later.

Peng travelled to Beijing this month, asking her to consider a reconciliation.

But when she turned him down on Sunday, he became enraged and killed her. Peng then tried to commit suicide by subjecting himself to electric shock.

He failed in his attempt but said the electric jolts he received cleared his mind and led him to surrender to police.
