The majority of residents of Zhuangyuan Village in Guixi City, Jiangxi Province, have fled their home town as a strange disease spreads through the settlement, reports Beijing Youth Daily.

Key symptoms of the illness include vomiting, dizzy spells and uncontrollable twitching.

Villagers, livestock and poultry have all fallen victim to the infectious disease, and the death rate has been high.

So far, local doctors and medical experts have not reached a consensus on what is causing the disease.

But they agree that it seems peculiar that no one suffering similar symptoms has been discovered outside Zhuangyuan Village.
