400m yuan to ease way for disabled ( 2003-11-19 16:42) (China Daily)
Shanghai will invest more than 400 million yuan (US$48.2 million) into making
the city more accessible to the physically disabled by the end of 2006, Jiefang
Daily reports.
As of the end of October, the city had improved facilities at 162 public
places, constructing an additional 91 kilometres of raised paths for the blind
and 1,454 wheelchair ramps.
The city plans to finish renovations at 25,000 locations throughout Shanghai
by the end of 2006 in time for the 12th Special Olympics to be held there in
2007.
