Cabby catches un-fare patron again ( 2003-11-18 17:31) (China Daily) Huang Xingli, a woman taxi
driver, caught a man who cheated her four months previously after he got into
her cab on Saturday afternoon, Shanghai Evening Post reports.
At about 4:00 pm, a man in his early 30s, accompanied by a boy, hailed her
taxi.
When Huang pulled over, the man sobbed that he only had 20 yuan (US$2.40) and
begged her to take them to a town.
Something about the man seemed familiar to Huang. After looking at him
steadily in her rearview mirror, Huang recalled that he had cheated her in July.
That time, the man, again with a boy, asked Huang to take them somewhere for
just 10 yuan (US$1.20). But when they reached the destination, the man insisted
on paying her in foreign currency that was later found to be fake.
Realizing he'd been recognized, the man jumped out of the taxi, leaving his
fake money behind in the cab. While chasing after him, Huang called police who
eventually arrested the man.
