'Calling-you-to-death' to protest poor marks ( 2003-11-13 17:36) (China Daily)
A 15-year-old student who imitated the "calling-you-to-death" automatic dialling system to harass school staff is serving a 15-day jail term as punishment, reports Yangcheng Evening News. Staff at the technical school started receiving mysterious calls in the office and at home in September. The caller would hang up immediately after the phone was picked up. And the line was always engaged if anyone tried to call back. The school reported the calls to police on October 13 after normal daily operations became impossible. Chen, a student at the school, was arrested on October 16. The computer-savvy teenager had failed in many subjects and seemed unlikely to graduate. Inspired by "calling-you-to-death" - the computerized dialling system employed to curb the posting of illegal advertisements - Chen wrote a similar programme, linked his computer with six mobile phone numbers and made some 6,000 calls.
