A taxi driver in Shanghai is reminding his peers in the trade that even fashionable young women can play tricks to avoid paying taxi fare, Shanghai Morning Post reports.

On the afternoon of November 9, a stylishly dressed young woman got into Gu's taxi carrying an expensive jacket she said she was taking back to a shop to exchange for another size.

She asked Gu to stop and wait for her just outside a hotel where she claimed to have bought the jacket.

But the woman never returned, leaving Gu with an unpaid 55-yuan (US$7) taxi fare.

An old man near the entrance to the hotel said that as the hotel had many exits, taxi drivers were often fooled by passengers in this way.
