Symbolic suit over 7-hour flight delay ( 2003-11-11 17:24) (China Daily) China's first case of a
passenger suing an air carrier over a delayed flight has been filed in Liaoning
Province, reports Liaoshen Evening News.
On September 27, Shen Changzheng, his wife and child, boarded Eastern
Airlines Flight MU4682 from Shenyang to Kunming, Yunnan Province.
The flight took off seven hours later than scheduled from the transfer stop,
Zhengzhou Airport, but the air carrier gave no explanation for the delay and
took no measures to comfort passengers.
Shen filed the suit when he returned to Shenyang, asking the company to
return the cost of his 1,100-yuan (US$133) air ticket and pay an additional 200
yuan (US$24) in compensation.
Shen told the paper he was not suing for the money alone but hoped his action
would urge the air carrier to improve its services.
