Nursing mom wins dog-bite settlement
( 2003-11-11 17:18) (China Daily)

A pet owner has been ordered to pay compensation to a mother who was bitten by his dog while she was nursing her child, Shanghai Evening Post reports.

On March 20, Li was nursing her five-month-old baby while she waited for a lift in her building when Zhang also approached the lift with a dog on a leash. The dog then bit Li on the leg.

On doctors' orders, Li had to stop breastfeeding her baby.

Li asked for compensation for the milk powder she must now buy for her child as well as expenses for her medical treatment.

According to the judgment, Zhang and Cai, the dog's owner, must pay Li 840 (US$101) yuan for the milk powder and 1,000 yuan (US$120) for her injury.
