380,000 yuan for security lapse ( 2003-11-11 17:12) (China Daily) A man who sued a property
management firm over his wife's death during a daylight robbery has been awarded
380,000 yuan (US$45,900) in compensation, reports Beijing Times.
In December 2001, Zhang Jinxiang moved to the Xima Residential District. An
agreement he signed with the property management firm said the firm was
responsible for ensuring the district's public security 24 hours a day, for
which Zhang agreed to pay 60 yuan (US$7.20) per year.
On September 16, 2002, two burglars broke into Zhang's home, injuring him and
killing his wife. The maid frantically called for security guards, but there
were none to be found.
