( 2003-11-10 13:48) (People's Daily)

China vehemently condemned the terrorist bombing that rocked a residential compound west of the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh late Saturday, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao on Sunday.

Liu said Chinese President Hu Jintao had sent a message to Saudi Arabian King Fahd Ibn Abdul-Aziz on Sunday and expressed sympathy and solicitude for the wounded people and families of the victims. President Hu said in his message that the Chinese government is firmly opposed to terrorism in any form and is willing to make unremitting efforts with Saudi Arabia and other members of the intenational community to safeguard world peace and security. Hu also expounded on his country's stance on this explosion issue.

President Hu stressed terrorism was a common threat facing all countries in the world, and that the Chinese government is in firm opposition to all forms of terrorism and was ready to work with the international community, including Saudi Arabia, to safeguard world peace and security, according to the spokesman.

There was no official report on casualties in the bombing, which occurred near a district where the palaces of Saudi royal family's senior princes and diplomatic quarters are located. It was estimated that 20 to 30 people were killed.
