Nets down Celtics to clinch record for coach Scott
( 2003-11-08 14:11) (Reuters)

The New Jersey Nets continued their mastery of the Boston Celtics Friday, making Byron Scott the most winning coach in team history with a 94-87 victory.

Scott, in his fourth year at the helm, surpassed Kevin Loughery by capturing his 130th win.

Jason Kidd and Jason Collins both notched 19 points for the Nets while Paul Pierce counted 27 for the Celtics. New Jersey swept Boston 4-0 in the Eastern Conference semi-finals last season.

 Pacers 91 Cavaliers 90

In Indianapolis, top rookie LeBron James's 23 points proved in vain for Cleveland as the Indiana Pacers squeezed a 91-90 decision to leave the Cavaliers winless after five games.

James missed a driving lay-up in the closing seconds that would have won it for the Cavaliers.

Ron Artest led the Pacers with 21 points, including the game-winning three-pointer. Reggie Miller added 15 points.

Ricky Davis came up one point short of a triple-double for Cleveland.

 Hornets 114 Lakers 95

In New Orleans, the Hornets ended the winning streak of the Lakers at five games when they cruised past Los Angeles 114-95.

Baron Davis scored 23 points and added 12 assists for the Hornets, with PJ Brown getting 20 points.

Shaquille O'Neal topped the Lakers with 21 points. Kobe Bryant was held to 11 points on 4-for-14 shooting.

 Wizards 86 Raptors 60

In Washington, the Wizards held the Toronto Raptors to four points in the second period and 23 for the half on the way to a lopsided 86-60 victory.

The record for second-quarter futility is three points, set by the Los Angeles Clippers against the Lakers in 1999. The Clippers had 19 points for the half in that game, also a record.

Larry Hughes paced the winning Wizards with 16 points and Christian Laettner grabbed a team-high 11 boards. Vince Carter picked up 18 points for Toronto.

 Knicks 114 Kings 111

In New York, Allan Houston poured in a game-high 39 points to inspire the Knicks to a come-from-behind 114-111 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Newcomer Keith Van Horn added 20 points while grabbing 13 rebounds as the Knicks chalked up their first home victory in three attempts.

Peja Stojakovic piled up 36 points for the Kings, with Mike Bibby adding 19.

 Pistons 105 Bucks 99

In Auburn Hills, Michigan, Chauncey Billups grabbed 27 points and Richard Hamilton 24 as the Detroit Pistons outlasted the Milwaukee Bucks 105-99 for their fourth straight win.

Mehmet Okur added 12 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

Michael Redd topped the Bucks with 28 points.

 Timberwolves 100 Magic 71

In Orlando, Latrell Sprewell notched 22 points while Kevin Garnett had 21 points and 17 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves routed the reeling Magic 100-71.

Tyronn Lue scored 25 points for the Magic, who have lost all five home games this season.

Drew Gooden chipped in with 14 points and Juwan Howard 13.

 76ers 106 Bulls 85

In Chicago, Allen Iverson racked up a best-of-the-season 33 points while dishing out 11 assists as the Philadelphia 76ers destroyed the Bulls 106-85.

Glenn Robinson added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Sixers.

Eddy Curry paced Chicago with 21 points and nine boards, with Jamal Crawford adding 19 points. It was the fourth lopsided loss for the Bulls this season.

 Clippers 104 Nuggets 102 (OT)

In Denver, Corey Maggette had 29 points and 10 rebounds while Quentin Richardson added 23 points as the Los Angeles Clippers outlasted the Nuggets 104-102 in overtime.

Denver's Carmelo Anthony started and finished strong, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and 11 in the extra period.

Anthony totaled 30 points and Earl Boykins recorded 19.

 Suns 96 Grizzlies 88

In Phoenix, the Suns had all five starters in double figures as they cruised past the Memphis Grizzlies 96-88.

Shawn Marion topped the Suns with 20 points and Amare Stoudemire added 18.

Pau Gasol claimed 23 points for Memphis, which was 4-of-27 (.148) from three-point range.
