An increasing number of pickpockets are operating in the prosperous shopping area of Xujiahui, as the volume of shoppers and subway passengers grows, Jiefang Daily reports.

At the area's bustling subway station and busy department stores, pickpocketing cases are on the rise, especially at weekends or during holidays. Emptied wallets and bags are dumped in dustbins or abandoned in toilets on a daily basis.
