Beijing has announced plans to build emergency refuge facilities downtown in a bid to temporarily house and care for disaster victims, reports Beijing Evening News.

According to the Beijing Earthquake Bureau, sponsor of the project, the facilities will include beds and toilets, water and electricity supply systems, and medical services.

The government is also soliciting citizens' suggestions on how best to make the facilities useful and efficient.
