An unemployed 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the sexual assault and rape of an eight-year-old girl, Shanghai Evening Post reports.

"Shan Shan" was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease after complaining of pain and "spots" on her private parts to her mother in July. She eventually told her mother that a man named Liang Ming had touched her inappropriately.

Shan Shan's mother reported the case to police. Liang assaulted Shan Shan several times since last September and raped her twice.

Liang had previously been sentenced to six months in prison for sexually harassing a child.
