Largest siheyuan renovation to begin

The city's largest siheyuan (quadrangle) renovation project since 1949 - at
Sanyanjing Lane - will begin by the end of the year, reports Beijing Times.
Siheyuan are traditional, historically significant Beijing homes. Hundreds of
years old, the dwellings include a compound of houses surrounding a courtyard.
They are becoming rarer in the capital city due to an increasing population and
the popularity of more modern apartment buildings. Sanyanjing Lane in downtown
Beijing will feature more than 1,000 rooms in a building area exceeding 2.25
million square metres.
