Li Guanfu, a well-known Beijing folklorist, collects local tales, then draws them on calabash gourds, reports Beijing Evening News.

Since 1993, Li has painted more than 100 gourds with illustrations of Beijing tales. The gourds vary in size, from 5 to 60 centimetres in diameter. And all of the gourds were cultivated by Li himself.
