Boy, 13, bit while feeding bear ( 2003-11-04 17:14) (China Daily)
A bear at a zoo bit and seriously injured a 13-year-old boy as he tried to
feed the animal, reports Beijing Evening News.
Chen Xingxing and his classmates visited Rugao Zoo in Jiangsu Province with
their teacher on a school trip. Chen said he thought the bear was "so lovely"
that he crossed the fence when the teacher wasn't paying attention. He then
extended both arms into the cage to feed the bear.
The bear bit down hard on the boy's arms, tearing and nearly separating the
flesh from his bones. After a six-hour operation, Chen is recuperating. But who
bears responsibility for the incident - the teacher, the zoo or the boy himself
- is still in dispute.
