Teen kills stranger for 'respect'
( 2003-11-04 17:06) (China Daily)

A teenager has been accused of killing a stranger in a bid to win his family's "respect", Shanghai Evening Post reports.

Members of his family have also been arrested on the orders of the Nanhui People's Procuratorate for shielding Zhao after learning about the crime.

Zhao arrived in Shanghai from Anhui Province with his sister in March to work.

He disliked working, however, and ended up going into thousands of yuan worth of debt.

Fearful that his sister would report his behaviour to their parents, he decided to do "something big", to show that he was not to be criticized.

At about 10 pm on March 30, a drunken Zhao broke into a stranger's shed nearby and stabbed the man as he lay in bed.

Afterwards, he fled with his sister and sister-in-law back to Anhui.

Zhao's parents took him to stay with a relative in Zhejiang Province instead of reporting him to police.
