Gold Confucian book up for bid
( 2003-11-04 16:56) (China Daily)

A handwritten copy of "Thirteen Classics", a famous collection of Confucian book, is to be auctioned soon, reports Beijing Times.

The minimum bid has been set at 13 million yuan (US$1.57 million), said the organizers.

Zhao Zhizhong, a well-known calligrapher, spent 10 years copying the more than 650,000-word text, 38-volume book in gold leaf.

The book incorporates more than 100 grams of gold.

All of the pages of the book spread out end-to-end would cover more than 1 kilometre, said the newspaper.
