Great Wall hosts romantic proposal ( 2003-11-04 16:56) (China Daily) A man surprised his fiancee
when he proposed marriage to her at the Great Wall on Sunday, reports Beijing
Youth Daily.
Chen, a US citizen of Chinese origin, enlisted friends and relatives to take
banners and flowers to one of the beacon towers along the Great Wall where the
event was to occur. Chen then invited his fiancee, a Singaporean woman of
Chinese descent, to visit the wall with him.
As Chen and his girlfriend approached the tower, banners reading "Do you want
to marry me?" were unfurled and flower petals were sprinkled on their heads.
Chen dropped to one knee and, holding some roses, popped the question.
The surprised and visibly happy young woman said yes. Chen said he hoped that
the Great Wall, an enduring symbol of China, would also be a symbol of their
love for one another.
