8 foreigners detained in 1 month ( 2003-11-03 16:44) (China Daily)
Eight foreigners - from Iran, Mali, Pakistan and the Philippines - have been
detained in Shanghai in four criminal cases since mid-September, Jiefang Daily
reports.
The Shanghai No 2 Intermediate Procuratorate has warned locals not to blindly
believe everything their "international friends" tell them. In the latest case,
a man identified as Moulaye from Mali cheated Zhang, a local businessman, out of
160,000 yuan (US$19,330).
Using two sheets of black paper and a small bottle of liquid, the man showed
Zhang how he could turn the paper into US$100 notes. He sold the special method
to Zhang for the stated amount, but never delivered the goods.
