Message sender extorts money ( 2003-10-30 12:25) (China Daily)
A man who used short messages to try to extort money from several people has
been apprehended by police, reports Qianlong News.
When Wang, an attendant at a hotel in the Tongzhou District, found the
business card of a company manager named Zhang on the lobby floor, he was
reminded of a case he once read about in a newspaper in which someone used short
messages to blackmail cellphone users.
Wang then sent several short messages to Zhang's cellphone number demanding
10,000 yuan (US$1,200).
After he was caught, Wang confessed to sending short messages to several
other people whose cellpone numbers he found in newspaper ads.
