Hospital compensates for wrong child ( 2003-10-29 17:11) (China Daily)
A hospital in Beijing has been ordered to pay a married couple 100,000 yuan (US$12,080) for mistakenly giving them someone else's child 12 years ago, reports Beijing Morning Post. On November 18, 1991, Wang gave birth to a boy at a hospital in the Xuanwu District. But over time, Wang and her husband found that the boy had little in common with either of them. A DNA test in 2000 certified that the boy was not their natural child. The court ruled that the hospital was responsible for the mistake and should compensate the couple. But because of inconclusive medical records, the hospital is not liable to look for the couple's natural child.
