Removal workers steal 400,000 yuan ( 2003-10-29 17:11) (China Daily)
Four removal workers who stole 400,000 yuan (US$48,330) from a customer have
been prosecuted by the Xuanwu District People's Procuratorate, reports Beijing
Star Daily.
Liu hired a well-known removal firm to help her move house without securing a
written contract.
She hid all of her savings - 400,000 yuan - in two cabinets after her
furniture was placed in the truck. Liu sat in the cab while the four workers
rode in back with her furniture.
But when the truck arrived at her new home, Liu discovered that the four
workers had disappeared along with her money.
According to one of the accused, removal workers often search for valuables
when helping people move house. "This was the first time we'd seen so much money
stashed away and we could hardly resist it," the man admitted.
