More and better public gyms abound ( 2003-10-28 17:04) (China Daily)
Public gyms have become commonplace in the Chinese capital, reports Beijing
Daily.
According to the paper, 1,233 public body-building facilities, involving a
total area of 945,000 square metres and an investment of 170 million yuan
(US$20.5 million), have been built and put into operation this year.
Meanwhile, renovations have begun at 36 such sites constructed in 1998.
To date, there are 6,234 public gyms in Beijing, enabling residents in most
communities and towns to partake of free body-building
facilities.
