Lawyer pays client for carelessness ( 2003-10-28 17:04) (China Daily)
A careless lawyer was ordered to pay a client more than 120,000 yuan
(US$14,500) after misplacing important evidence and causing his client to lose a
lawsuit, reports Beijing Evening News.
Ma had been hired by a trading firm to pursue a 12,000-yuan (US$1,500) debt
owed by an engineering company. But Ma misplaced all of the evidence provided by
the firm.
When the firm lost the lawsuit against the debtor, which it believed it would
have won had the evidence been presented, the firm took Ma to court.
The Xicheng District People's Court ruled that Ma was responsible for the
loss and ordered him to compensate the firm.
